Clematis isn’t just your typical flowering vine anymore. Join us for this rare opportunity to hear international expert, Raymond Evison, talk about his latest book, Clematis for Small Spaces and how it celebrates a new generation of clematis that will appeal to both established enthusiasts and beginners. Visiting all the way from Guernsey, Channel Islands, he will recommend varieties now available for mixed borders, containers, patios, hanging baskets and how hardy & disease resistant they are.

 

Mr. Evison has spent four decades searching, breeding, introducing and cultivating over 100 of the best clematis varieties to gardeners worldwide. He has won numerous awards, including many RHS Gold Medals and the RHS Victoria Medal of Honour (2004). He serves as a Vice President of the Royal Horticultural Society, and his business, The Guernsey Clematis Nursery Ltd., is the world's leading producer of young clematis plants.

Tina will share her cornerstones of success which include: Correct soil, containers & plants (right plants in the right place); Elements & principles of container garden design; Ongoing care and nurturing; and most importantly: Loving not only the end result, but the creative experience.

 

A Pattern Garden: The Essential Elements of Garden-Making

Valerie Easton, Seattle Times garden columnist, will speak about her new book from Timber Press. Patterns are the basic language of design, and can be used to make gardens warm and inviting. They're the difference between why some gardens enchant, and others only impress. If you can't recognize and name what it is you love about a certain atmosphere and place it's impossible to reproduce it in your own home and garden. Valerie will explore the 14 essential design elements, including enclosure, exposure, destination, focal points, water and scale that help gardeners design individual and compelling outdoor spaces.
